ABOUT FEBRILE ILLNESS
One of the most common reasons for healthcare visits globally, fevers in malaria-endemic regions were often attributed to malaria. But modern rapid tests and malaria control efforts mean many cases now stem from other infections, such as typhoid, leptospirosis, rickettsioses, community-acquired bacteraemia, viral infections, etc. Treatments are specific to each infection, but diagnosing these infections accurately remains difficult in many tropical and subtropical countries.
