Structural governance

The IDDO Board, a Scientific Advisory Committee, and the IDDO Secretariat are responsible for the overall functioning and governance of the VL research theme.

IDDO Board
The IDDO Board supports decision-making, approves new initiatives and has overall responsibility for the strategic direction and activities of IDDO.

VL Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC)
The SAC is comprised of leading members of the VL research community and policy advisors in the affected health communities. It is responsible for advising on the governance, design and implementation of the VL research theme, and for seeking appropriate input to research activities. The Chair of the VL SAC is also a member of the IDDO Board to ensure representation of the VL research theme and effective communication.

IDDO Secretariat
The IDDO Secretariat manages the operational, technical, legal and administrative activities related to hosting the VL research theme.

Collaborators & funders
The VL research theme started as a pilot project with a grant from the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi). We have secured funding from Wellcome to develop the project into a fully-functioning platform.

VL Data Access Committee (DAC)
An independent DAC will be appointed to make objective decisions regarding data access and use. Members of the committee will be nominated by the VL research community, and will be responsible for establishing the terms and conditions for data access in consultation with data contributors. We aim to have a selection of members from endemic regions, with a broad range of expertise, such as ethicists, researchers in other diseases, and data sharing experts.
