Dr Katanekwa Njekwa

I am a Zambian trained medical doctor and Clinical Research Fellow in the clinical trials unit (CTU) at the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ). I have served as research clinician, sub-investigator and principal investigator conducting research according to Human Subject Protection (HSP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP/HSP), and institutional and regulatory requirements. My work includes supporting community and stakeholder engagement, participant enrolment and retention, and development of site-specific protocols and SOPs. I also support and participate in scientific journal clubs, grant submissions and manuscript development within the institution. My long-term goal is to specialize in infectious and tropical diseases research, particularly malaria research.

 I am currently a WHO TDR Clinical Leadership Fellow at the University of Cape Town, Collaborating Centre for Optimizing Antimalarial Therapy (CCOAT) supervised by Prof. Karen Barnes. Part of my work includes individual patient data meta-analysis of datasets from the IDDO and WWARN data repositories, investigating Plasmodium Falciparum Kelch 13 genetic mutations and artemisinin-based therapy (ART) and artemisinin combined therapy (ACT) therapeutic efficacy.
