Access malaria data using the WWARN Data Inventory

WWARN’s extensive scientific work has informed changes in dosage and combinations of antimalarial drugs and has led to policy change.

The wealth of malaria data in the WWARN repository is now being made increasingly accessible, to allow more researchers to use and re-use data in new ways to answer critical new questions and advance knowledge.

Over the past decade, WWARN's science and data teams have collaborated with partners across the globe to gather and standardise data on the efficacy of antimalarial medicines and treatments. The WWARN Data Inventory lists 400 datasets that are currently accessible, with the right permissions, from the repository. The repository contains most of the world's antimalarial combination therapy data published since 2000.

Researchers worldwide can use the Data Inventory as a mechanism to help them plan and answer new research questions, whilst at the same time, it allows data contributors to continue to receive recognition for their primary work.  

The Data Inventory allows users to view and select individual studies and make a data access request either to data contributors themselves or to WWARN's independent Data Access Committee (DAC). The DAC, which is appointed, run and chaired by the WHO/TDR, manages applications in accordance with the Data Access Guidelines and supports data contributors by making decisions on access to data sets that have been delegated to DAC control.

To gain access to the standardised, curated datasets through the DAC, applicants must have completed a PhD or have equivalent research experience, and demonstrate that they have the understanding and expertise to carry out the proposed work.
