Professor Catherine Goodman
BIOGRAPHY
Catherine Goodman is a Professor in health economics and policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). She has over 25 years of experience in applied health systems research in low and middle income settings, including extended periods based in Kenya and Tanzania.
A key focus of her work is on understanding private sector engagement in healthcare provision – with a strong interest in provision of medicines by private providers. Her research has encompassed analysis of retail pharmacy and drug store markets, pharmacy regulation and accreditation, medicine quality, and evaluation of interventions to strengthen medicine provision and enhance private sector governance across LMICs.
She has served in a range of advisory roles for WHO and other agencies related to the private sector, medicine quality, malaria and antimicrobial use. She is passionate about capacity strengthening of early career researchers, and is Dean of Doctoral College for LSHTM. She also has a strong interest in equitable partnerships, and led the development of the EquiPar tool for enhancing equitable research collaborations.
