Dr Essoham Ataba

Dr Essoham Ataba is Head of Epidemiological Surveillance and Research at Togo's National Malaria Control Program, where he coordinates malaria surveillance, drug efficacy monitoring, and the development of national strategic plans for malaria and other priority diseases. 

He is currently an Academic Visitor at the Infectious Diseases Data Observatory (IDDO), University of Oxford, as part of the TDR/WHO training programme in clinical research. 

He holds a PhD in Parasitology (University of Lomé, 2021) and a Master's in Public Health/Epidemiology (University of the Mountains, Cameroon, 2025). 

With over 13 years' experience in the health sector, he has led and co-investigated research on antimalarial drug resistance, diagnostic test performance, and epidemiological surveillance, in collaboration with WHO, the Global Fund and other partners. 

He previously served as Quality Manager for malaria diagnosis within Togo's national network of medical biology laboratories and as Head of the Hematology–Parasitology Unit at Aného Hospital.
