RBM appoints Executive Director

The Roll Back Malaria Partnership (RBM) today (14 June 2012) announced the appointment of Dr Fatoumata Nafo-Traoré as the new RBM Executive Director. She will take office on 16 July. 

Dr Nafo-Traoré has held a number of high-level positions in the area of public health for over 25 years in her country and at the international level. After working as a Health Specialist and Director at the World Bank in Bamako, she served as Minister of Health, Social Affairs, Solidarity and the Elderly of Mali from 2000 to 2002, and then as WHO representative to the Congo and Ethiopia. Dr Nafo-Traoré brings to the Partnership a wealth of malaria- specific expertise and leadership experience: she was the Executive Secretary of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership Secretariat from 2003 to 2004 and the Director of the WHO Roll Back Malaria Department from 2004 to 2005. Dr Nafo-Traoré also served as President of the Assembly of Ministers of ECOWAS, and has extensive experience with the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization (GAVI). 

She graduated as a medical doctor from the National School of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bamako, Mali in 1984 with honors. In 1990, she obtained a special degree in public health with outstanding distinction from the Free University of Brussels School of Public Health. 

Dr Fatoumata Nafo-Traoré is a Malian citizen.
