BIOGRAPHY

Professor Phaik Yeong Cheah is bioethicist and Professor of Global Health at the University of Oxford. She is the head of Bioethics & Engagement at the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU), Nuffield Department of Medicine.

Phaik Yeong’s research interests includes ethics in research conduced in low-resource settings, data ethics, community engagement, and ethics of antimicrobial resistance. She chairs the Data Sharing Working Group of the COVID-19 Clinical Research Coalition and serves on WHO committees including the COVID-19 Research & Development Blueprint Social Science Working Group and the committee on ethics of Adaptive Platform Trials. She is a member of the Steering Committee of the Global Forum for Bioethics in Research. Phaik Yeong grew up in Malaysia, has a degree in Pharmacy (Universiti Sains Malaysia), MSc in Bioethics (Erasmus Mundus)  and PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Universiti Sains Malaysia)
