Research Assistant

We are seeking a Research Assistant to contribute to an examination of data which have the potential to reduce the impact of infectious disease outbreaks. The study will examine the availability and gaps in data with the potential to enhance or accelerate public health emergency prediction, preparedness, response, and recovery. Progress on this study will contribute towards a collaboration with the Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA) of the International Science Council (ISC) on the development of data integration approaches. We seek to achieve a more holistic understanding of the complexity that underlies the challenges that confront humanity by exposing their deep structure through the integration of data across relevant disciplines.

This full-time, short-term position with salary support is available immediately and is expected to last 6-8 weeks. We are seeking a Research Assistant to support this work by contributing to a review of available literature and data hosting systems; conducting a survey of relevant stakeholders; collecting and summarising data; and abstract/application/report/manuscript writing as per the detailed outline below.

The position will be based in the Infectious Diseases Data Observatory at the University of Oxford’s Old Road Campus, but we can be flexible with working location. Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, and those who already have access to Oxford University systems are especially welcome. If you’re interested or want more details, please send a short paragraph (no more than 200 words) explaining the value of integrating data across disciplines to reduce the impact of infectious disease outbreaks to laura [dot] merson [at] iddo [dot] org (Laura Merson) as soon as possible and before 28 July.
